STDU Explorer

If you store a large number of files, in different formats, in the same folder, you will have difficulties organizing them or finding a specific item. STDU Explorer makes it easy to explore and manage pictures, documents and e-books, in various formats. Its filtering capabilities and its familiar interface make this tool an excellent substitute for Window Explorer.

The software is free for non-commercial use and it works on multiple Windows editions, from Windows XP to Windows 7. The installation file is quite small and you don't have to go through a complex setup process to have STDU Explorer up and running. If you have a 1 GHz processor and at least 512 MB of RAM, the software will run on your computer without any issues.

STDU Explorer interface is very similar to Windows Explorer, but it provides additional features which enable you to find certain files much faster. The navigation pane can be undocked and placed on a different edge. Additionally, you can replace it with a preview area, to glance over the selected files. If a document contains bookmarked items, you may switch to a content viewer, on the same pane, to view these items in a tree structure, without opening your document.

Navigation, viewing and editing options can be found on a ribbon menu. Files can be displayed in a list, as thumbnails or in other view modes. You can use different options to copy, cut, paste or delete files or send them to a specific folder. It is also possible to rename items or bring up their Properties windows.

By default, STDU Explorer filters your files to show only supported items, but it also allows you to select different filters, in a drop menu, to display only PDF documents, images, DjVu files and other file types. Alternatively, you can select the last option, in the same drop menu, to show all files, regardless of format. This means that you can use the software to manage your documents and images or use it as a replacement for Windows Explorer.
